Working with pattern blocks!
We spent some time creating new shapes as well as making same figures out of different shapes with pattern blocks. Tomorrow we will spend some time manipulating Tangrams!
Please keep working with your children to memorize their lines for our play. We rehearse each day in class and they will start rehearsing without scripts at the end of the week!
Please remember to complete the music assignment if you missed the performance. They are due by the 18th, but you may turn them in any time this week!
There is a math page for homework tonight. The assignment was written in agendas :)

Our plays are looking better already! Some kids have most of their lines memorized already :)
We spent a good amount of time talking about 3-d shapes today; cube, cone, pyramid, prisms, cylinder. If you see these shapes in the real world, point them out to your child this weekend!
Yesterday was our last day to check out books from the library. ALL library books are due back by next Friday.

Class Plays
You have probably already been told by your child that we have begun out class plays! Each child has a part in the play and lines to memorize. Please help them memorize their lines. They will bring their scripts home each night to practice. The scripts are to be brought back the next day so we can use them for rehearsal in the classroom. Next week, we will rehears without scripts and all lines need to be memorized!
We will have class made costumes for the play, however, if your child would like to add to them with things you already have at home, they are welcome to. For example, the dogs can bring brown clothes to wear on the performance day or sheep can bring white.
Our plays will be performed on May 22nd at 8:30 in the gym. All second grade will perform the same two plays, so we will begin promptly at 8:30 to ensure that we are finished with enough time for PE to continue throughout the day!
Please check your child's agenda for homework for the rest of the year. Next year, the agenda will be the main source of communication for homework, so we will practice that here as second grade comes to a close. I will be more diligent about ensuring they write their entry each day, so please check their agendas each evening.

Music Concert Tomorrow
The Spring Music Concert is tomorrow! Please be sure to arrive at 6:00. Check-in is in the classroom.
Today we wrapped up unit 13, graphs, in math. We spent a long time reviewing our past 13 chapters! We wil l begin geometry soon.
We had a lot of fun with picture poems today. They had to create a scene using words in the shapes of the object they were representing. For example, "tree" repeated in the shape of a tree. They created a water scene and later this week they will create a scene of their choosing. Speaking of poetry, Mrs. Aswad will announce the winners of the poetry contest tomorrow morning!
No homework tonight!
